Available Technology
There are several technologies available that will enable us to reach our design goals. The motherboard will be able to analyze, collect, store, and send display information for all the necessary data. An LCD touch screen will allow information to be displayed to the driver mid-race, and will allow the driver to change what is displayed and provide a user interface to allow for different data selection and download. Depending on implementation, an accessible USB connection will allow either the unit to be connect directly to a computer, or for data to be downloaded via USB memory stick, or a bluetooth connection could allow for connection and wireless transmission of data. The actual data could be collected using a GPS antenna for GPS data, a Hall Effect sensor for speed, thermistors for engine temperature detection, a float switch to detect fuel level, a pressure gauge for tire pressure, etc.
